Privacy policy
Effective date: 7 May 2026
This policy describes how Xiaomi Technology India Private Limited and its affiliates (“Xiaomi India”, “we”, “us”) collect and use personal information when you use the Retail Advocacy Contest web portal and related services (the “Contest Portal”) for the Content Banao Lakhpati Ban Jao programme.
By registering for or using the Contest Portal, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Contest Portal.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Contest Portal, we may collect:
- Account and profile data: name, email address, mobile number, role (for example promoter, team leader, retailer), zone, store name where applicable, and login credentials (stored using one-way hashing where passwords are used).
- Contest participation data: content submissions you upload or link to (such as post URLs or identifiers), platform information, and engagement metrics used for scoring or leaderboard purposes when you or administrators provide them.
- Verification and security: one-time passwords (OTP) and related tokens sent to your email or phone, security logs, device or browser technical data (such as IP address, approximate location from IP, and user-agent), and timestamps of access for fraud prevention and audit.
- Support and communications: messages you send to contest support email addresses and records needed to respond.
2. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage contest accounts, authenticate users, and operate OTP and password flows;
- Run the contest, validate eligibility, calculate points, maintain leaderboards, and pay or reconcile prizes as per programme rules;
- Communicate with you about the contest, technical notices, and integrity of the programme;
- Detect abuse, secure our systems, investigate incidents, and comply with law or lawful requests;
- Generate aggregated or de-identified analytics that do not identify you.
3. Legal bases (India)
Where the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and rules thereunder apply, we process personal data as permitted by law—for example, with your consent where required (such as marketing communications where applicable), for legitimate uses you would reasonably expect in a retail contest, or to comply with legal obligations. We aim to collect only what is proportionate for these purposes.
4. Sharing of information
We may share information:
- With Xiaomi group companies, professional advisers, or service providers who host, secure, email, or help operate the Contest Portal under confidentiality and instructions consistent with this policy;
- With regulators, courts, or law enforcement when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security;
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer—your information may transfer as a business asset, subject to appropriate safeguards and notice where required.
We do not sell your personal information. Any public leaderboard displays only the fields and pseudonyms the programme rules intend to show.
5. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for contest operations, prize administration, dispute windows, legal and tax record-keeping, and security. When retention is no longer required, we delete or de-identify data in line with our internal schedules, except where a longer period is mandated by law.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect personal information. No online system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and protect access to your email and phone.
7. Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, update, or request deletion or restriction of your personal data, withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, or seek grievance redressal. To exercise these rights for the Contest Portal, contact us using the details below. You may also be able to review or update certain profile fields after signing in.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
We may use cookies, session storage, or similar technologies needed for login sessions, security tokens, preferences, and basic analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may limit portal functionality.
9. Third-party platforms
The contest may reference or link to third-party social or video platforms. Those services have their own privacy notices. We are not responsible for their practices; please review their policies before posting or linking content.
10. Children
The Contest Portal is intended for eligible retail participants as defined in the programme rules and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have done so, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. International transfers
Your information may be processed in India and, where necessary for group operations or vendors, in other countries with appropriate safeguards as permitted by law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on the Contest Portal and adjust the effective date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice.
